R. Kelly may be claiming broke, but fans of the entertainer are pouring thousands of dollars into the jailed singer’s commissary account Media Take Out has learned.

Unfortunately for R. Kelly, the prison has just confiscated almost all of the money that his fans contributed.

R. Kelly is currently serving a 30-year prison term for racketeering and sex trafficking. In accordance with his sentencing, U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly ordered R Kelly to pay a $100,000 fine, a $900 special assessment, and $40,000 assessment under the Justice for Trafficking Victims Act.

But he hasn’t paid a dime of that. R Kelly’s legal team is claiming that the singer is flat broke, Media Take Out has confirmed.

The feds want their money – and so they’ve decided to grab cash from R. Kelly’s commissary account – which was filled with donations from his fans and friends.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel G. Saavedra wrote in a five-page letter, “The Government has been informed by the BOP that the Defendant had accumulated substantial funds in his inmate trust account.”

According to the prosecutor, R. Kelly had $28,328.24 in that account and the Bureau of Prisons has seized that money.

“The BOP has confirmed that it left $500 in the Defendant’s trust account for Defendant’s use in MCC Chicago,” the letter states. “Accordingly, as of this writing, the BOP has restrained a total $27,828.24.”
