An attorney for R. Kelly has responded to allegations made his the singer’s daughter that her star father molested her when she was a child.
In Karma: A Daughter’s Journey, Buku Abi says that the singer abused her as a child and first reported it to her mother, Andrea Kelly, in 2009, when she was 10 years old.
“The allegation was investigated by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services,” attorney Jennifer Bonjean said. “[R. Kelly] was under criminal investigation at the time. He’s probably the most highly-investigated individual on the planet when it comes to these types of claims. The Illinois DCFS determined that the allegation was unfounded many years ago.
Bonjean added that there was no “merit” to the allegations and that if Buku Abi was abused by him, charges would have been filed long ago.
“We know that people sometimes come to believe things based on having distorted and contaminated memories, particularly children, and this can be done by their mothers,” she said. “This is not junk science. This stuff exists.”
Bonjean added that R. Kelly is angry and very upset. She says that the singer is currently in mourning but they are considering legal action.
