Prosecutors in the YNW Melly double murder case want the judge to conceal the names of jurors from the public ahead of his upcoming second trial.
According to prosecutors, several names and physical descriptions of jurors at Melly’s first trial were found in a notebook retrieved earlier this month in the Miami home of the rapper’s codefendant, YNW Bortlen.
Bortlencodefendant has been charged with murder, accessory after the fact and witness tampering.
“There is evidence that suggests potential or seated jurors in the upcoming jury trial will be subjected to improper outside influences or harassment,” prosecutor Kristine Bradley wrote in her motion.
A hearing for the trial was postponed this week due to the rapper’s attorneys accusing South Florida prosecutors of committing felony obstruction of justice. Melly’s attorneys say prosecutors did not reveal that the lead detective in the rapper’s double-murder case had been previously accused of being inclined to lie as he collected evidence.
