Fatman Scoop, one of the most popular DJs from the past 30 years passed away last night, while performing on stage in Connecticut, Media Take Out has learned.
Scoop, 52, was survived by his ex-wife Shanda and their two children, a son and a daughter.
Scoop has been plagued with high blood pressure and diabetes for years, which he struggled to control. While the exact cause of death is not yet known, we suspect that it could have been a result of his underlying conditions.
The talented DJ, known for hyping up the crowds was one of the most prolific DJs ever. Media Take Out learned that Scoop performed on the road more than 300 days of the year. He had a reputation of accepting any and every gig – and making sure that his fans got a great show every time.
Last night, he was performing in Connecticut – hyping up teh crowd, when he collapsed. His friends tried to perform CPR on him, but it was unsuccessful. He died doing what he loved – entertaining the crowd.
Fatman Scoop was an American rapper, hype man, and radio personality. Noted for his booming, raw vocal presence on various hip hop songs, he was best known for his guest performances on the 2005 singles “Lose Control” by Missy Elliott and “It’s Like That” by Mariah Carey. The songs peaked at numbers three and 16 respectively on the Billboard Hot 100, while the former won the Grammy Award for Best Music Video and received a nomination for Best Rap Song. Prior, his 1999 sleeper hit single, “Be Faithful” (featuring the Crooklyn Clan) entered the Hot Rap Songs and Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs charts, and peaked the UK Singles Chart.
