Media Take Out Staff |

Buzzing young rapper Big Scarr has died at age 22. News of his untimely death circulated on social media Thursday evening.

His death was confirmed by 1017 Records CEO and founder Gucci Mane on Thursday night. “This hurt. I’m a miss you @bigscarr,” Gucci wrote alongside a photo gallery of Big Scarr.

And Media Take Out obtained social media posts from Big Scarr’s family members, who suggest that the rapper may have accidentally overdosed on Fentanyl.

Femtanly overdoses are a growing problem in hip hop, as drug dealers are now putting fentanyl in “lean” and Oxy pills – to increase their potency.

Big Scarr, real name Alexander Woods, was best known for his singles “SoIcyBoyz” and “Make A Play,” the latter of which caught the attention of Gucci Mane. He signed to Gucci’s 1017 Records in 2020.

In April 2021, Woods released his debut mixtape, Big Grim Reaper, which peaked at number 25 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Woods’ rap name “Scarr” is derived from the scars he received when he was thrown through a car windshield at age 16.

Woods nearly lost his life when he was shot in 2020. The bullet entered his hip and traveled to his chest. “I was moving, so the bullet kept moving too,” he said in his bio. “The doctors had to split me down the middle to save me. My insides got messed up, and they had to remove my appendix, so I could walk again. I recovered and bounced back way quicker than I thought though.”
