Corey Walker, the only defendant charged with the murder of New York drill rapper Pop Smoke has failed to reach a plea agreement with prosecutors, leading to a delay in the trial.
“Negotiations fell through, but there’s still a possibility we’ll come to an agreement,” defense attorney Deion Benjamin told Rolling Stone. “A few things need to be ironed out. If they don’t get resolved, we’ll go to trial.”
One of the Pop Smoke’s killers has been released from jail.

Trial is set to commence with jury selection scheduled to start on August 6.
Pop Smoke was killed on Feb. 19, 2020, at a rented home in Los Angeles where he was staying while on a four-day trip to Los Angeles. Armed intruders broke into the home a day after the rapper posted a photograph on social media of a gift bag he had received…the address was on the gift.
King Vermont, another of the four defendants, was reportedly recently released from juvenile detention following his 21st birthday. Pictures of him as a free man have been circulating online. He pleaded guilty at the time of his indictment.
