Pooh Shiesty is asking a federal judge to let him out of custody while he waits for trial in a kidnapping and robbery case tied to Gucci Mane.
The Memphis rapper, whose real name is Lontrell Williams Jr., filed a new request in Texas federal court asking a judge to reconsider an earlier order keeping him detained. His attorneys are proposing strict release conditions, including 24-hour home confinement, GPS monitoring, limited travel, drug testing, no contact with the alleged victims, and intensive supervision.
Pooh Shiesty’s legal team argues he is not a danger to the community or a flight risk, and they also claim one alleged victim later denied the incident on social media and question whether the kidnapping allegation belongs in federal court.
Prosecutors strongly disagree and say they are not aware of any alleged victim taking back a statement and allege that the rapper’s attorneys did not provide proof of a recantation.
In their filing, prosecutors argued that “no condition of release can protect the community or witnesses against Williams Jr. from the danger he poses.”
They also wrote, “The danger here is concrete. Williams Jr. himself has shot at least two people. He leads a Memphis street gang of roughly 100 members. He is a man who can summon an armed entourage at will.”
Williams has pleaded not guilty. His father, Lontrell Williams Sr., and rapper Big30 have also pleaded not guilty.
A judge has not yet ruled. Trial is scheduled for February 2027.
