Pooh Shiesty’s attorney is disputing a key allegation in the federal case accusing the rapper and several others of kidnapping and robbing Gucci Mane.
During a recent appearance on Law & Crime’s Sidebar with Jesse Weber, attorney Bradford Cohen responded to prosecutors’ allegation that Pooh Shiesty and his father visited a Staples before a January meeting in Dallas and printed the contract release form authorities say Gucci Mane was forced to sign at gunpoint.
“I don’t even care if they’re at Staples,” Cohen said. “They are going to a recording studio. Normally, my clients usually print off the lyrics for different individuals.”
Cohen said it would not be unusual for artists to stop at a print shop before a session.
“If you have five individuals that are going to be on one record, and they each have a section or a part, they’ll usually print those things off,” he said.
The attorney also challenged the government’s version of events, adding, “We have to create the defense and create a way to make sure that [the government] is held to their burden. So, it doesn’t matter what they say. It matters what they have.”
Federal prosecutors allege Pooh Shiesty, his father, Big30 and six other men met Gucci Mane at a Dallas recording studio for what was supposed to be a business meeting. Authorities claim the gathering escalated into an armed kidnapping and robbery. All nine defendants could face life in prison if convicted.
