Gucci Mane was allegedly the target of a kidnapping and armed robbery plot carried out by one of his own artists, according to a federal criminal complaint unsealed Thursday.
Prosecutors say Pooh Shiesty, whose legal name is Lontrell Williams Jr., arranged to meet with Gucci Mane, born Radric Davis, at a Dallas recording studio on Jan. 10 to discuss being released from his contract with 1017 Records.
According to the complaint, Williams was angry about the terms of his deal and asked Gucci Mane to join him in a recording room after arriving at the studio.
Once inside, prosecutors allege Williams pulled “what appeared to be a black AK-style pistol” from a bag and demanded that Gucci Mane sign paperwork releasing him from the label.
Authorities say Gucci Mane complied.

Federal investigators also allege that Williams’ father and several others then robbed people inside the studio, taking watches, wallets, headphones, and designer bags.
One alleged victim was reportedly choked until he nearly lost consciousness, while others believed “they were going to be executed,” according to the complaint.
Williams, who was on home confinement at the time for a prior conviction, was wearing an ankle monitor during the meeting. Prosecutors say electronic monitoring data and surveillance footage place him at the scene, which has baffled his supporters.
Williams, his father, and several others were arrested on Wednesday in Dallas and Memphis. If convicted, they could each face life in prison on federal kidnapping and armed robbery charges.
