Perez Hilton is “lucid” and talking with family as his treatment begins focusing more heavily on his mental health following his August 4 crisis, his brother-in-law says.
Tom, who is married to Hilton’s sister Barbara Lavandeira, shared the update during a recent appearance on The Perez Hilton Podcast.
“Up until about 48 hours or so ago from this recording, he was being treated for physical issues,” Tom said.
Hilton, 48, has been hospitalized since the incident at his Miami home. Tom said the blogger suffered several injuries and spent the first weeks of his stay focused largely on physical recovery.
“So we are now just transitioning into the mental side of things,” he said. “The actual healing or digging into what caused this mental break, as I called it, hasn’t been discovered completely.”
Tom said Hilton has been able to speak with close relatives through the nursing station, including his mother and sister.

“He’s able to call Barbara, he’s able to call his mom, he’s able to call me,” Tom said.
Hilton has not had access to electronic devices, and his three children have not visited him during the hospitalization.
His mother, Teresita Lavandeira, currently has temporary custody of Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8.
Hilton’s family has said they remain hopeful as his inpatient treatment continues.
