Paul George Hit With 25-Game Suspension in Shocking NBA Blow!

Paul George has been suspended 25 games by the NBA after violating the league’s anti-drug policy, the league announced Saturday. The suspension begins with Philadelphia’s matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The 35-year-old 76ers forward said the situation stemmed from a mistake he made while seeking help for his mental health. “Over the past few years, I’ve discussed the importance of mental health, and in the course of recently seeking treatment for an issue of my own, I made the mistake of taking an improper medication,” George told ESPN.

“I take full responsibility for my actions and apologize to the Sixers organization, my teammates and the Philly fans for my poor decision making during this process.”

George added that he plans to use the time away to recover. “I am focused on using this time to make sure that my mind and body are in the best condition to help the team when I return,” he said.

George has appeared in 27 games this season, averaging 16 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists. He is eligible to return for the final 10 games of the regular season beginning March 25 against the Chicago Bulls.

The suspension creates a challenge for a Philadelphia team currently sitting sixth in the Eastern Conference. George signed a four-year, $212 million contract with the Sixers in 2024 and was expected to be a key piece alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey as the team pushes toward the playoffs.
