Team USA sprinter Fred Kerley, who was arrested on May 1 for allegedly punching ex-girlfriend and fellow Olympian Alaysha Johnson in the face at a Florida hotel, says he is suing her.
Cops say Johnson, also a track star, told them Kerley hit her during a heated run-in at the Le Méridien in Dania Beach. The two were in town for the Grand Slam Track event. She reported a bloody nose and filed a sworn statement.
Kerley was booked on a battery charge and released the next day. His lawyer says the case is bogus: “The allegations lack merit… Fred was attacked and someone else got hurt in the scuffle.”
Kerley addressed the incident on Instagram, calling it a “misunderstanding” that cost him his spot at the track meet. He stated that he was arrested after refusing to speak without the presence of legal counsel.
Kerley’s rep, Shawn Zanotti, tells TMZ Sports the sprinter is fully cooperating with the legal process and is ready to take it to trial to clear his name and repair the hit to his reputation. The outlet reports that he is preparing his lawsuit to sue his ex.
