O.J Simpson’s longtime lawyer Malcolm LaVergne has denied reports that the former NFL star died surrounded by his loved ones.
Simpson’s family released an official statement announcing he had passed away from cancer at age 76.
“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace,” the family posted on Simpson’s X account.
LaVergne told AP News that just one person was with Simpson when he died, identified by the attorney only as “a close family member.”

“You have to remember that they’ve shared O.J. with the world their entire lives,” he said.
Simpson was father to Arnelle Simpson, now 55, and Jason Simpson, 53 — and the children Simpson had with ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson before she was murdered in 1994: Sydney Simpson, 38, and Justin Simpson, 35.
