The New York Police Department denied allegations that officers were spying on Drake fans at his show at the Apollo Theater in Harlem.

NYPD says that video clips of officers filming fans outside the venue was for social media and not for spying purpose. According to a source, the footage will be used to show how police directly work with security at venues in the city to keep fans safe.

“The officer depicted in the video is a Community Affairs officer involved with the 28th Precinct’s social media team. The officer was taking video for an upcoming Twitter post that will highlight local community events. The video will not be utilized for any other reason,” a spokesperson for the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information’s office said told Consequence of Sound.

After the video went viral, some fans suggested that the cops were trying to keep an eye on 21 Savage, who recently went viral for his shocking rant on Clubhouse.
