Nicki Minaj says promoters are suing the wrong person over a canceled concert that allegedly cost them $275,000.
The rapper has asked a judge to throw out the lawsuit, arguing that she was never personally bound by the booking agreement at the center of the dispute.
In court papers, Minaj’s lawyers say third-party agencies and business entities managed any negotiations. They contend that the Grammy-nominated artist did not personally sign the alleged deal, accept its terms or breach it.
“The plaintiff is attempting to hold Ms. Minaj personally responsible for agreements she never personally entered into, signed, or breached,” her attorneys wrote.
The event promoters allege Minaj was given an upfront payment to headline a major performance before suddenly pulling out. They are seeking compensation for the alleged advance, cancellation expenses and other losses connected to the event’s collapse.
Minaj’s team maintains that any disagreement about payments belongs between the promoters and the booking companies that handled the arrangement. Her attorneys accuse the plaintiffs of pursuing her personally because of her fame and financial success.
