Nick Reiner Held Without Bail After Not Guilty Plea

Tiffany Brockworth |

Nick Reiner entered a not guilty plea Monday in the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, who were found stabbed inside their Brentwood home last December.

The 32-year-old appeared briefly in Los Angeles Superior Court, where he spoke only once to agree to a future court date set for April 29.

Nick Reiner faces two counts of murder with a special circumstance enhancement that could result in the death penalty or life without parole if convicted.

Reiner is currently being held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility. He was arrested hours after his parents’ bodies were discovered on December 14. During the hearing, Reiner wore a brown jumpsuit and kept his head shaved. No discussion of his mental state was raised in court.

District Attorney Nathan Hochman said his office is still weighing whether to pursue capital punishment.

“We owe it to their memory to pursue justice and accountability for the lives that were taken,” Hochman said outside the courthouse.

The case may take time to move forward. Hochman noted that a preliminary hearing could be delayed due to the amount of evidence involved.

Reiner has previously spoken publicly about a long struggle with addiction. In a past interview, he reflected on his turbulent youth, saying, “I was insane, and I said, ‘I’m insane,’ and they didn’t believe me.”
