Nick Reiner Appears in Court as Lawyer Withdraws From Parents’ M*rder Case

The attorney representing Nick Reiner, who is accused of killing his parents, withdrew from the case this week as the proceedings continue in Los Angeles.

The change was announced during a court hearing on Wednesday, where Reiner appeared in a jail-issued jumpsuit ahead of his scheduled arraignment on two counts of first-degree murder. He did not enter a plea and agreed to delay the arraignment, which has been rescheduled for February.

Reiner had been represented by high-profile defense lawyer Alan Jackson, whose past clients include several well-known figures. After meeting privately with the judge, Jackson told the court, “We feel we have no choice” but to step away from the case, citing circumstances beyond his control.

Speaking to reporters afterward, Jackson firmly defended his former client. “Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder,” he said. “Print that.”

The court appointed Kimberly Greene from the Los Angeles County public defender’s office to take over the defense. Greene confirmed she had briefly spoken with Reiner but had not been in contact with his family.

Prosecutors allege that Reiner fatally stabbed his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, inside their Brentwood home in December. District Attorney Nathan Hochman said he believes the evidence will lead to a conviction, calling the case “heart-wrenching.”

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Reiner family said they have “the utmost trust in the legal process” and declined further comment.
