Nicci Gilbert Rips Yung Miami’s “Spend Dat”: I HATE the Song!

Nicci Gilbert is the latest celebrity to speak out against Yung Miami’s “Spend Dat,” after seeing children dance to it and deciding she had enough.

The Brownstone singer took on the viral song during a recent episode of Diary of a Diva, and she made clear that her harsh words were not aimed at Yung Miami as a person.

“Caresha is beautiful,” she said, adding that the rapper has “a fun personality.”

But Gilbert says she hates the song.

According to her, the issue became more serious when she noticed young kids participating in the trend, and she says the catchy hooks are not harmless just because people dance to them.

“The lyrical content is witchcraft in my opinion,” she explained. Gilbert later said she meant “conditioning,” explaining that repeated words and hooks can leave a mark.

“Music is the soundtrack of our lives,” she added. “Music will inspire us to do the very worst things. Music will inspire us to do the very best things.”

As part of Brownstone, she helped deliver the 1990s R&B staple “If You Love Me,” a Grammy-nominated hit built on big vocals and emotion. She later appeared on R&B Divas: Atlanta, where veteran singers often discussed legacy and the state of the genre.

India.Arie has also criticized the response to “Spend Dat,” writing that “everything you listen to, see or eat is going to influence you.”
