Mysonne claims Colin Kaepernick suddenly went silent on the activists who had rallied behind him, leaving organizers confused before the former NFL quarterback settled his collusion case with the league.
During a recent interview with Memphis Bleek, Mysonne recalled helping organize protests, boycotts and community actions after Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem in 2016.
“I was frontline,” Mysonne said, describing the time and resources activists poured into supporting Kaepernick’s challenge to the NFL.
According to Mysonne, the group was actively planning demonstrations when Kaepernick allegedly stopped responding to phone calls, emails and group messages for weeks.
“We planning the next action, we in the emails. They’re like, ‘Kaepernick is not answering nobody’s emails,'” he said. “He done left the group chat. I’m telling you this for a fact. So, [it’s], ‘What you mean he left the group chat?’ They say, ‘I don’t know.’ And this happened for weeks… He just went silent on us.”
The rapper and activist said the lack of communication became more difficult to understand after Kaepernick and the NFL reached a confidential settlement in February 2019. Kaepernick had accused team owners of colluding to keep him out of the league because of his protests.
Mysonne questioned why supporters who had sacrificed personal opportunities and relationships were not told about the agreement beforehand.
“They say he signed an NDA. I’m like, he didn’t tell us? So, you sayin’ that we did all of this s–t, that n—as sacrificed and beefing with other n—as, and we doin’ all this s–t, and the n—a we sacrificed for just disappeared from the movement? And didn’t even notify us?” he went on.
Sources familiar with the deal have disputed that account, saying Kaepernick did not sign a non-disparagement agreement barring him from speaking about the league or social issues.
