Actress Mo’Nique and her husband, entertainment executive Sydney Hicks used to talk about their open marriage on podcasts. But the couple’s marriage has evolved recently, and now their relationship is a lot more traditional.
Media Take Out learned that Sydney and Mo are no longer practicing polyamory in their marriage.
Mo explained what changed between them, in a recent interview with Variety.
The couple met in 10th grade at Randallstown High School in suburban Baltimore. The two started off as friends, then business partners, and eventually they got married. Mo added, “He’s the best manager that I’ve ever had,” she says. “And I’ve had the big boys.”
Mo told the interviewer, “Our energies and spirits just connected … That’s been over 16 years ago and we’ve not been apart since.”
Then the Oscar winning actress turned to the subject of their open marriage, which they’ve discussed at length on their podcast Mo’Nique & Sidney’s Open Relationship. It was Mo’Nique’s idea originally, but both have calmed down with their extramarital activities. “Life began to happen,” she says. “I began to see a strength I had never seen before. He loved me at my worst. I didn’t want to sacrifice that just for a lay. So I grew out of that.”
