Two of boxing’s biggest legends are stepping back into the spotlight as former world champions Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather are set to face off in a blockbuster exhibition bout next year.
The event, staged by CSI Sports/Fight Sports, is already generating massive buzz, though details like the exact date, location, rules, and broadcasters are still under wraps.
Tyson, 59, once the undisputed king of the heavyweight division, is returning to the ring after a 19-year retirement that ended in a controversial 2023 matchup against Jake Paul.
“This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen,” Tyson says. “Boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets.”
On the other side is Mayweather, 48, who walked away from professional boxing in 2017 with an unblemished record of 50-0, winning titles across five different weight classes. Since then, he’s kept fans entertained with a string of high-profile exhibition bouts, most recently against John Gotti III in August.
“You already know that if I am going to do something, it’s going to be big and legendary,” Mayweather teases. “This exhibition will give the fans what they want.”
While formal winners aren’t declared in exhibitions, and results don’t count toward career records, it is certain to make both men a lot of money.
