Michigan Coach Sherrone Moore Fired & Arrested On Same Night

Former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore is at the center of an ongoing investigation following his arrest and sudden firing this week, though prosecutors say more time is needed before any decision on charges is made.

Moore, 39, was arrested Wednesday night and booked into the Washtenaw County Jail shortly after the university announced he had been fired. In a statement Thursday morning, the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office said it does not anticipate Moore being charged or arraigned that day. Officials added that the investigation remains active.

Pittsfield Township police confirmed Moore’s arraignment is expected Friday, Dec. 12, and said he will remain in custody until then.

Police said an assault was reported on Wednesday afternoon in the 3000 block of Ann Arbor Saline Road. A suspect was taken into custody, though Moore was not publicly named in the initial police statement.

Michigan announced Moore’s firing less than an hour later.

The university said it found credible evidence that Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Moore, who is married and has three daughters, had served as head coach for two seasons, making history with the shortest head coaching tenure for the Wolverines since the 1920s.

Additional scrutiny followed Moore’s firing when an OnlyFans model alleged he had messaged her privately. “I wasn’t surprised he was all in my DMs trying to risk it all with an OF model,” fitness influencer and OnlyFans creator Mia Sorety wrote on X.

Moore has not publicly addressed the allegations.
