Gordon Thornton revealed he had been diagnosed with Bipolar I during the third part of the Real Housewives of Potomac season 8 reunion.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, “Bipolar I disorder is defined by manic episodes that last for at least 7 days (nearly every day for most of the day) or by manic symptoms that are so severe that the person needs immediate medical care. Usually, depressive episodes occur as well, typically lasting at least 2 weeks.”

“Bipolar, in and of itself, causes your mind to really work opposite,” Gordan told Andy Cohen and the other Housewives. “Your mind tricks you into saying ‘You are normal, everyone else is slow.’ “

Andy then asked Gordan when he had been officially diagnosed, and he revealed he had receieved a diagnosis two and a half years ago. Gordon says he has had symptoms of the illness since he was in his 20s.

“I can remember episodes over the course of my life,” he said, adding, “My manic got worse over the years as I gained more control, more power, more money.”

The couple have been separated since last Summer. Gordon believes their marriage would not have failed had he had control of his illness sooner.
