Meta confirmed that they did help Lil Tay retrieve the account after it was hacked.
Hackers posted to Lil Tay’s account that she and her older brother had passed away. It took over 24 hours for the rapper’s camp to address the death reports.
Meta spoke to TMZ to confirm it was hacked.
Tay informed her fans of the hacking, but many fans were skeptical and accused the family of faking her death for promo.
“My Instagram account was compromised by a 3rd party and used to spread jarring misinformation and rumors regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong. My legal name is Tay Tian, not ‘Claire Hope,'” she wrote at the time.
“I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I’m completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say,” she added. “It’s been a very traumatizing 24 hours.”
