New court filings show that Robert Cosby Jr., the son of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby, had planned to challenge domestic violence allegations made by his ex-wife shortly before his death.
According to documents filed on February 10, the 23-year-old asked the court to dismiss claims made by his former spouse, Alexiana Arian Smokoff. In the motion, Cosby Jr. argued that the accusation involving a reported 2024 incident was untrue.
“It is the Defendant’s position that the alleged victim is now fabricating an incident in retaliation for a failed marriage,” the filing stated.
Cosby Jr. and his attorney also raised the possibility that Smokoff could face charges related to obstruction of justice or providing false information to police.
Smokoff previously reported to authorities that a violent altercation had taken place during their marriage. She alleged that Cosby Jr. pushed her, kicked her, and strangled her during an argument after she flushed drugs down the toilet.
Cosby Jr. died on February 23, less than two weeks after filing the motion.
Following his passing, the legal challenge became inactive.
In a statement shared after his death, his parents expressed their grief.
“Robert Sr. and Mary Cosby are mourning the loss of their beloved son,” a family attorney said. “His warm spirit, humor and kind heart will be missed.”
