Mary Cosby’s son, Robert Cosby Jr., died the night before filming began on season 7 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, according to her costar Lisa Barlow.

Lisa shared the heartbreaking timing of the loss during an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy, saying the loss changed the experience for everyone involved in the Bravo series.

“It was the hardest thing,” Lisa told Andy, describing Robert Jr.’s death as a “bonding moment” for the cast.

Mary, 53, has “handled things so incredibly well,” Lisa added, crediting her costar’s faith with helping her through the devastating loss.

Robert Jr.’s funeral was not filmed, but several members of the Housewives community attended to support Mary. Lisa called the service “probably the most beautiful experience.”

Kyle Richards also reflected on being invited, saying she was grateful to stand beside Mary.

“I will never forget that day ever in my life,” the Beverly Hills star revealed. “I appreciated her having me there because I just, like I said, I was so touched by it.”

Andy previously offered his condolences on Watch What Happens Live, telling Mary that his “heart” was breaking for her.

“Mary, you did such a great job,” he said, referencing the mother and son’s openness about Robert Jr.’s struggles. “I know their bravery and their vulnerability in sharing their story has helped and will continue to help countless people who are struggling.”
