Mary Cosby Says She Won’t Visit Son in Jail: ‘I Don’t Want to See Him Behind a Glass’

Mary Cosby is opening up about an emotional chapter for her family as her son, Robert Cosby Jr., remains in jail following his recent arrest.

During a preview of the season 6 reunion of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, the reality star became tearful while explaining why she has chosen not to visit him in person. “I can’t go to the jail,” Mary Cosby said. “I don’t want to look at my child behind a glass.”

Robert previously shared his struggles with addiction last season, admitting he knew he needed help. In November, weeks after his September arrest, he pleaded guilty to violating a protective order and assaulting a peace officer. Mary said the situation stemmed from a restraining order filed by his wife’s family. “He went back anyway, thinking he could save her,” she explained. “I don’t know where he’s getting that from.”

Despite the pain, Mary said she believes her son is safer where he is. “I know he’s somewhere where he’s not using,” she said. “I’d rather him be there than dead.”

She revealed that Robert calls her daily and that she uses those conversations to encourage change. “I’m like, ‘God is allowing this for your good,’” she said. Mary added that her husband, Robert Cosby Sr., has not visited either but is supporting their son by sending books.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 2026.
