Mary Cosby is holding tightly to the memories of her son Robert Cosby Jr. after his death at just 23.
During the September 16 premiere of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Mary opened up about losing her and her husband Robert Cosby Sr.’s only child, calling him both her son and her “best friend.”
“I miss our conversations, I miss his company,” Mary said in a confessional filmed three weeks after his death. “He was my gift and I loved him like I never loved anything.”
Mary said even small reminders of Robert Jr. have helped her through the early days of grief. That includes his dog, Kray, whom the family brought into Robert Jr.’s room after his death.
“They had the most beautiful bond,” Mary said. “So it’s like a piece of Bubs is left.”
Rather than avoid those reminders, Mary said she finds comfort in them.

“Stuff like that just comforts me, helps me get through,” she explained.
The Bravo star also reflected on Robert Jr.’s memorial service, which she called his “Homegoing.” She said the outpouring of support afterward was overwhelming, with messages arriving daily from people offering prayers and condolences. Mary’s RHOSLC castmates later visited her home, putting their own disagreements aside to support her.
“I feel at peace,” Mary continued. “I feel like he’s not battling, he’s not struggling.”
She added, “You just don’t know how strong you are until you absolutely have to be.”
