Masika Kalysha’s estranged husband, Jamar Champ, was reportedly killed in a car accident in Texas.
According to the report, Champ, 38, was hit by a vehicle traveling down a Houston freeway the wrong way. The driver of the other vehicle, who ignored several “wrong way” and “do not pass” signs, also died.
The crash occurred shortly after 12 a.m. local time on Tuesday, Oct. 28, according to a news release from the Houston Police Department.
Police reports reveal that a silver BMW was heading westbound in eastbound lanes on 6600 Katy Freeway when it struck a Champ’s silver Tesla Cybertruck head-on before catching fire. Champ’s Cybertruck then hit a blue Freightliner 18-wheeler.
Champ was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. Police have requested an autopsy on the BMW driver to seek evidence of any impairment.
Kalysha took to social media to express her grief.
“I just ask, respectfully, that you guys refrain from posting information until I do. Because word spreads fast to children and although my kids aren’t on social media, a lot of their friends are, and a lot of, all their parents are,” she said in the video below. “And I don’t want my kids to find out at school before I can tell them.”
Kalysha continued, “Let me make an announcement before you do.”
Kalysha and Champ tied the knot in 2021 and separated in 2023. The reality star shares a three-year-old daughter, Amari, with Champ.
