In a recent interview with Nardwuar, Chicago rapper Lil Durk revealed the moment he believed that it was over for his career.

The rapper was forced to cut his hair before beginning his sentence at Stateville Correctional Center. in 2013.

“‘Cause when they cut my hair, the lady guard was like, ‘Why you cut your hair?’ But it’ posed to be mandatory, and I’m like, ‘What you mean what the f-ck I cut my hair for?’ Then they did me any type of way. I looked in the mirror. I said my career over with. They cut me bald, all types of sh-t,” he said.

Fortunately for Durk… he’s career continued to rise and now he is one of the country’s biggest stars.

Durk’s recent song “All My Life” is one of the biggest tracks of the year. Earlier this year, he revealed it took years to get the J. Cole feature.

“He went super crazy,” he said. “It’s so crazy because we’d been talking for like two years, and he’d always be like, ‘Send me a record,’ and I’m like, ‘I gotta find the right record.’ I’m glad I waited two years. In my eyes, he a legend. If you have a chance to do a song with a legend, it be like, will you send them something just to send it, just to say you got one? Or you gone make it stick? So that’s why I never just sent him a record ’cause I’m like, ‘I want something that’s gon’ stick.'”
