Popular 2000s R&B singer Monica is dating hip hop star Kodak Black, Media Take Out has learned. And the two make one of the strangest couples in the music world.
We spoke with a person close to Monica who told us that she believes that Monica and Kodak are “having fun,” and while Mo’s friend didn’t quite call it a relationship … she suspects that the two are dating casually.
When Media Take Out received the tea … our mouth dropped.
Here’s Monica and Kodak dancing on TikTok:
First off, there’s a pretty big age difference – Monica is 41 and Kodak Black is 25 years old. But age isn’t the biggest difference.
Monica is an elegant and classy lady. She’s a fixture at high society events in Atlanta – and she routinely has dinner with the Mayor, judges and many of the City’s most prominent business people.
And Kodak Black is well . . . Kodak Black and doesn’t quite fit in in those circles.
Here[s Monica in Kodak’s car:
Mo and Black have been doing Tik Toks and taking photos together. Recently, she posted photos on her Instagram account of her with Kodak and his mother, Marcelene Octave.
“I’m Forever With who’s With Me… That’s on My Life… Love You @kodakblack & My Z Queen Momma Fee Fee…. 🔒 In 4L,” Monica captioned the images.
Many of Monica’s fans are surprised by her new relationship – and others are HORRIFIED by what Monica seems to be getting herself into.
One fan responded in the comments to Monica’s slideshow, “Monica stay surrounded by real goons.”
Another said, “Auntie be thuggin 😂I like that 😭 stay true to you”.
Another wrote, “Monica this is sad. Kodak has said many disrespectful things about women. Told PNB rock girlfriend to kill herself. Made insensitive posts regarding Kobe Bryant and Vanessa your best friend. I love you but linking with an abuser is wrong”.
Kodak Black gained initial recognition with his single “No Flockin”, released in 2014. His debut album, Painting Pictures (2017), peaked at number three on the US Billboard 200 and included the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 single “Tunnel Vision”. Black’s second album, Dying to Live (2018), peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 and was supported by the single “Zeze” (featuring Travis Scott and Offset), which peaked at number 2 on the Hot 100.
Kodak Black’s career has been marked by periods of mainstream success, as well as public controversies and legal issues. His legal troubles began in middle school and spiked significantly throughout the late 2010s. In 2019, Black was arrested for weapons possession and was sentenced to almost four years in federal prison; his sentence was commuted by President Donald Trump in 2021. While incarcerated, he released his third studio album, Bill Israel (2020). His fourth studio album, Back for Everything followed in 2022, and contains the hit single “Super Gremlin” as a bonus track.
Monica has sold 5.3 million albums in the United States and she is recognized as one of the most successful urban R&B female vocalists to begin a career in the mid to late 1990s.
According to Billboard, she is the youngest recording act to ever have two consecutive chart-topping hits on the Billboard Top R&B Singles chart, as well as the first artist to top the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart over the span of three consecutive decades (1990s, 2000s, and 2010s).
In 2010, Billboard listed Monica at number 24 on its list of the Top 50 R&B and Hip Hop Artists of the past 25 years. A four-time nominee, she won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for her contribution to “The Boy Is Mine” alongside Brandy, at the 41st awards ceremony and has been the recipient of one Billboard Music Award, one BET Award, and two BMI Pop Awards.
