Legendary DJ Mister Cee has passed.
The Brooklyn star’s family confirmed the news and his former employees, Hot 97, released the following statement.
“As a family at HOT 97 and WBLS, we’re deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Mister Cee. He wasn’t just a DJ; he was a pillar of our stations, bringing joy to countless listeners with his legendary Throwback at Noon and Friday Night Live sets,” the statement reads.
The statement continues, “Mr. Cee’s influence stretched far beyond the airwaves, shaping the very fabric of NYC’s DJ culture. Our hearts are heavy as we send our love and condolences to his family and the fans whose lives he touched through his music.”
Mister Cee aka “The Finisher,” is known for discovering late rapper, The Notorious B.I.G after being introduced by DJ 50 Grand. Mr. Cee then set up a meeting with Sean “Diddy” Combs and Biggie would go on to sign with Bad Boy Records. He also worked as DJ for Big Daddy Kane’s DJ and hosted a show at HOT 97.
In 2013, he resigned from the radio station after he was arrested several times for soliciting oral sex from transgender prostitutes. He returned the following year but resigned once again.
He continued a regular slot over at 94.7 The Block until his passing.
Rest In Peace, Mister Cee!
