Lee Daniels, creator of the Empire seriesm says he would work with Jussie Smollett again in the future.

“He was a son to me. And he also represented me. And he also represented the movement that I tried to start, which I didn’t know I was starting,” said Daniels on The Breakfast Club. “I was so busy, worried about Cookie’s hat and the music that we were playing [on Empire.]”

Smollett was written out of the show’s sixth season after he reported to Chicago Police that he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack by two white men, who were also MAGA supporters, wearing ski masks in January 2019.

Police found that the actor set up the crime and charged him and he was sent to jail.

“Look, it’s complicated,” he said when asked about the current status of their relationship. “It’s so complicated, guys. It’s so complicated. Life is so complicated.”

He added, “I still don’t know what to believe. Honestly, I don’t know what to believe. People say he didn’t do it, he did do it. God bless him on his journey.”
