The rape trial of British rapper Yung Filly reached closing arguments as his attorney insisted the woman accusing him of assault willingly began having sex with him before the night allegedly turned violent.
Yung Filly, whose legal name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, has pleaded not guilty to 10 counts involving sexual assault, assault and choking. Prosecutors allege he attacked a 20-year-old fan in a Perth hotel room following a September 2024 performance.
Defense lawyer David Edwardson told the jury there was no dispute that the pair had sex, but said prosecutors had not proved the alleged violence occurred.
“One thing is perfectly clear, she was an enthusiastic and willing participant when the sex started,” he said.
Edwardson challenged the woman’s credibility and argued that medical evidence did not determine whether she had been raped, assaulted or strangled. He also questioned why she asked Filly to order chips after the alleged attack.
Prosecutor Danielle Clarke said the woman’s initial consent did not extend to acts involving brutality.
“He did exactly what he wanted, how he wanted, when he wanted for his own sexual gratification,” Clarke argued.
She said the encounter “quickly escalated into sexual violence and a nightmare” and told jurors, “Everyone has the right to say no.”
Yung Filly testified that the woman never asked him to stop, pushed him away or said she was in pain.
“She was kissing, she made sexual noises, grunting and moaning in a good way,” he said.
The woman alleged she was bitten, struck and strangled. She later went to a hospital with bruising, swelling and wounds to her face, neck and breasts. The trial remains underway.
