Larry Hoover wants to be free from jail and says he’s turned his back on The Gangster Disciples, the gang he founded.
“I wish this were not so,” he said. “Regardless, these people are apart from me and do what they do with zero encouragement or direction from me… To be clear, if I had any ability to influence them, I’d ask that they’d forget me and forsake the gang life forever.”
The 71-year-old is serving a life sentence in a federal supermax prison in Colorado. Hoover wrote to a federal judge asking for his life sentence to be reduced and says that he’s a changed man.
“I have long since renounced my association with any and all criminal organizations and their membership,” he wrote. “I am no longer a member, leader, or even an elder statesman of the Gangster Disciples,” Hoover continued. “I want nothing to do with it now and forever.”
Hoover would still have to serve a life sentence on state murder charges even if he is released from prison.
