Kim Kardashian feared her “life was over” when she unexpectedly became pregnant with her first child with Kanye West, just seven months into their relationship.
The 45-year-old reality star recalled her initial panic in an excerpt from Jonathan Van Meter’s upcoming biography, Citizen Kim, published by The Cut this week.
“I literally thought my life was over,” Kardashian admitted.
The unexpected pregnancy came after doctors warned her that conceiving could be difficult because of fertility concerns discovered during testing with her sister Khloé Kardashian. Following medical advice, Kardashian stopped taking birth control and became pregnant during her first month off the pill.
When she called Ye with the news, she was so distraught that he initially feared someone in her family had died.
“I was crying so hard I couldn’t get it out,” she recalled.
Kardashian told West she needed time alone to consider her next steps.
“I need a week. I don’t want to talk to anyone. I don’t want to talk to you. I need some time to think,” she remembered telling him.
Ultimately, she decided to continue the pregnancy.
The couple welcomed daughter North in 2013 following a difficult pregnancy involving preeclampsia, placenta accreta and a premature delivery.
“It was obviously the best thing I ever did,” Kardashian reflected.
She and Ye later welcomed Saint, Chicago and Psalm before finalizing their divorce in 2022.
