Kevin Hart is facing heavy backlash after he recently defended some of the jokes at his recent Netflix roast.
The comedian, 46, spoke on The Breakfast Club after backlash to Roast of Kevin Hart, where Tony Hinchcliffe drew criticism for a George Floyd joke that referenced Floyd, who was killed by former police officer Derek Chauvin in 2020. Hart said the joke did not land for everyone, including him.
“Tony told a joke,” Hart said. “It wasn’t a tasteful joke to us. We didn’t like it. OK. … We move on.” He added, “I don’t understand why we stand on a hill, and it becomes this big thing.”

Hart said he would not have used the same material himself, but understood what comics like Hinchcliffe and Pete Davidson were doing in the roast setting.
“Would I tell those jokes? No. But do I get why they’re being told? Yes,” Hart said.
Terrence Floyd, George Floyd’s brother, previously said Hart should have brought “Will Smith energy” to the taping. Hart said there was “nothing” he could have done during the live show.
“I’m not compromising the live production for a reaction of what?” he said.
The backlash has continued beyond the room. Chelsea Handler later called some of the jokes “gross” and “disgusting,” while Nikki Glaser said she saw “some stuff that I didn’t love.”
Viewers were quick to call the comedian out for his excuses.
