Suri Cruise has legally changed her name to Suri Noelle, and Katie Holmes reportedly fully supports her daughter’s decision to stop using Tom Cruise’s surname.
The 20-year-old adopted Katie’s middle name as her new last name, according to Page Six. A source told the outlet that Katie did not pressure Suri or encourage her to make the change.
“It was entirely Suri’s decision,” the insider said.
The source claimed the choice developed gradually and was not made overnight. Katie reportedly gave Suri space to decide what felt right without trying to steer her in either direction.
“Katie wasn’t surprised by Suri’s decision,” the insider said, describing the college student as “incredibly independent” and confident in making important choices for herself.
Katie, 47, is said to be “incredibly proud” of the young woman her daughter has become. The actress has reportedly spent years encouraging Suri “to think for herself” and take ownership of her life.
“She just wants Suri to be happy and live life on her own terms,” the source said.
Pennsylvania voter registration records reportedly list Suri under the name Suri Noelle.
Katie and Tom, 64, welcomed Suri in April 2006 and divorced in 2012. Katie primarily raised their daughter in New York City. Tom and Suri have reportedly remained estranged for years.
Neither Katie nor Suri has publicly commented on the reported legal change.
