Judge Lets Jury Hear Yella Beezy Songs in Capital M*rder Case

Lyndon Abioye |

A Dallas judge has decided that three songs can be played for jurors in Yella Beezy’s capital murder trial, while blocking other music prosecutors hoped would connect him to Mo3’s killing.

The ruling allows two Yella Beezy tracks and one recording by Mo3 to enter the courtroom. Their lyrics reportedly address the yearslong feud between the Dallas rappers. However, the judge excluded additional songs prosecutors argued showed Yella Beezy’s alleged motive, as well as an Instagram Live video he recorded on the day of the shooting.

Yella Beezy’s defense maintained that rap lyrics should not be treated like sworn testimony.

“The lyrics involve playing a character, and should not be taken as fact,” his attorneys argued.

The rapper, legally named Markies Conway, is accused of paying Kewon White to kill Mo3, whose real name was Melvin Noble. Prosecutors claim Yella Beezy’s music mentioned placing a bounty on his rival and later celebrated his death. His lawyers have rejected those claims, arguing that the recordings are creative performances rather than autobiography.

Mo3 was chased and fatally shot on Interstate 35E in Dallas on Nov. 11, 2020. A passing motorist was injured during the gunfire but survived.

Yella Beezy was indicted in March 2025. He faces life without parole or the death penalty if found guilty.
