Judge Allows Rap Lyrics as Evidence Against Lil Durk

Some of Lil Durk’s own words may soon be heard in a courtroom.

A federal judge has ruled that select lyrics and visuals connected to Lil Durk can be introduced as evidence in his upcoming murder for hire trial.

According to court proceedings cited by Complex, Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald made the decision following arguments from prosecutors and Durk’s defense team during a February hearing.

Durk, born Durk Devontay Banks, is accused of orchestrating a hit tied to an alleged plot involving rap rival Quando Rondo. Prosecutors argue that certain lyrics and visuals help explain motive and context, while the defense maintains that creative expression should not be treated as literal fact.

Judge Fitzgerald allowed four edited lyric excerpts to move forward, noting they may only be used if prosecutors can clearly explain their relevance to the case. Several other lyric requests were denied. Regarding music videos, the judge approved the use of still images rather than full clips, though one video may still be considered at a later date.

The court also approved the inclusion of social media comments and past remarks Durk made about pressure to retaliate following the death of King Von, including statements shared during an interview with DJ Akademiks.

Another evidentiary hearing is scheduled later this month ahead of the trial, which is set to begin in April 2026.
