Chloe Bailey and Gunna sampled Jon B’s 1997 hit song “They Don’t Know” for their collaborative single, “You & Me,” but Jon B. says he does not like the song at all.

“They put that ratchet record out that I couldn’t stand, and I wish they never did,” Jon said on the ‘Can We Talk R&B?’ podcast. “[They] actually never got my rights to do that record, either, so, Gunna, we gotta holler about that… That’s some business sh-t we got to handle.”

The singer says he’s not against songs being sample, but that he did not like the way the artists handled the whole creation process.

“That’s a [producers and co-songwriters] Tim & Bob compliment, that’s a me compliment. But at the same time, my lane is my lane, and my area is my area, and I earned that,” he continued. “If you made a hit in your area, you do your song whatever it is, I’m not going to just come into your area, take your joint and make it mine and then not pay you or whatever.”

Jon B is an American R&B singer, songwriter and record producer. His debut album Bonafide (1995) spawned the hit singles “Pretty Girl” and “Someone to Love” (featuring Babyface), the latter of which reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated at the Grammys Awards for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. The following year, he co-wrote the single “Say You’ll Be There” for the Spice Girls. His second album Cool Relax (1997), was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
