Johnny Depp Wins Defamation Suit Against Amber Heard

Media Take Out Staff |

Johnny Depp has won his defamation case against Amber Heard.

Depp sued Heard for defamation over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post where she referred to herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.”

She did not name Dep but he claims to have lost several roles after the article was published.

The jury found that Heard defamed Depp in three separate statements in The Washington Post piece. The jury also found that Depp defamed Heard with a statement his attorney made.

The jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million dollars in punitive damages. Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages and no money for punitive damages.

But punitive damages in the state of Virginia are capped at $350,000…so that’s the amount in punitive damages he will receive.

False, very serious and criminal allegations were levied at me via the media, which triggered an endless barrage of hateful content, although no charges were ever brought against me. It had already traveled around the world twice within a nanosecond and it had a seismic impact on my life and my career,” a statement from Depp read.

“And six years later, the jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled.

My decision to pursue this case, knowing very well the height of the legal hurdles that I would be facing and the inevitable, worldwide spectacle into my life, was only made after considerable thought.”
