Joe Budden says the bar for rappers is too low and that rappers should have to pass a Hip Hop SAT for entry.
“I’ve always felt like there needs to be, like, a Hip Hop SAT test that you take before you can get a record deal,” said Budden. “Some of you n-ggas gotta answer some questions, like: How do you hold a microphone? They’re some of the basics you gotta know.”
He added: “If everybody just know everything with no consequence, no trial and error, then everybody’s just doing the same shit! No! And then you’re muddying the water.”
Budden has had several controversial takes this week. His statement that he did not like Megan Thee Stallion because she allegedly did “horrible things” to several of his industry friends went viral.
Budden faced backlash for the comments and quickly apologized.
“I’m apologizing to Meg,” said Budden. “Meg, the people that love her, her handlers, her team, the people that have to support her through what has to be an exhausting trial. I listened back. I got a few phone calls from women that I love and appreciate and admire.”
