Jermaine Dupri Defends R. Kelly’s Music Legacy

Lyndon Abioye |

Jermaine Dupri doesn’t want to hear about the crimes of R. Kelly and still says the incarcerated singer is one of the best r&b stars to ever do it.

“R. Kelly put the ‘R’ in R&B,” he said on Instagram Live. “We gotta stop playing around. I get it. I understand. I’m not here to talk about none of that bullshit he’s involved with. He is the R in R&B. Hands down.”

Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2022 on nine counts for the “sexual exploitation of children” and “transportation of women and girls in interstate commerce to engage in illegal sexual activity,” as well as other charges.

The disgraced star was convicted of three child pornography charges and three counts of child enticement in Chicago last year.

Earlier this year, the singer tried to have his sentence overturned, but in April, a federal appeals court ruled that his sentence was correct and according to DOJ records, his possible release date is December 21, 2045.
