Jalen Hurts Pulled from Action After Blood Clot Discovery Rocks Eagles’ Season

Tiffany Brockworth |

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been placed on injured reserve after doctors found a blood clot in his calf, sidelining the Super Bowl MVP after he initially played through the injury.

The Eagles announced the roster move Saturday, two days after revealing that Hurts had been diagnosed with a superficial blood clot.

The health scare began during Philadelphia’s Oct. 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams, when another player’s cleat struck Hurts in the calf.

He reported the injury to the team’s medical staff after practice on Oct. 8 but returned the next day.

Concern grew after the Eagles traveled to London for their matchup against Jacksonville.

“Out of an abundance of caution, an ultrasound was performed on Saturday (Oct. 10) following the team’s flight to London and walk-through,” the organization explained in a statement.

The examination revealed the clot, prompting consultations with team physicians and doctors in London. Medical professionals initially determined that Hurts could continue playing safely, with movement considered beneficial.

“Doctors recommended a follow-up ultrasound within 72 hours of the game and the return flight to Philadelphia,” the team said.

Hurts was subsequently ruled out of Philadelphia’s game against Carolina before being moved to injured reserve.

The Eagles have not provided a specific timetable for his return.
