Chicago Bulls guard Jaden Ivey is speaking out after being waived by the team, insisting his recent social media posts were about faith and that they were not harmful to his peers.
Hours after Chicago announced it had released him for “conduct detrimental to the team,” Ivey went live on Instagram and questioned the decision.
“They said my conduct is detrimental to the team, right?” he said. “Why didn’t they just say we don’t agree with his stance on LGBTQ?”
Ivey argued that he had done nothing wrong inside the locker room.
“What did I do to the team? What did I do to the players? I did nothing but practice with them, play with them, pass the ball to them, good teammate to them,” he said. “I said, ‘Good job, good shot.’”
The 24-year-old said the controversy stems from his Christian beliefs.
“Because I believe in the truth, because I know Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life,” he said. “My conduct is not detrimental to the team. That is a lie.”
During the livestream, Ivey also opened up about his past, saying, “I was a fornicator. I was a p*rnography addict. And I used to get drunk.” He added that basketball once “was everything” to him before finding religion.
Ivey also took aim at Stephen Curry, saying, “Y’all think he’s a Christian,” before adding, “He don’t know Jesus.”

This latest livestream follows a controversial social media rant in which he called out the NBA for celebrating Pride Month, accusing the league of celebrating and promoting “unrighteousness.”
