Rapper iHeartMemphis worried fans after a series of alarming social media posts led to a tense standoff with police that ended early Tuesday morning.
The Tennessee-born artist, best known for his 2015 viral hit “Hit The Quan,” was taken into custody after barricading himself inside his Plantation, Florida, home for nearly 11 hours while livestreaming the situation on Instagram.
In clips that circulated online, the 32-year-old appeared visibly distressed as officers attempted to speak with him.
“I’m not Kanye,” he shouted at one point, insisting he was not going to hurt himself and did not need medical assistance. The mother of his child, Coco Bliss, appeared emotional as he repeatedly told her to leave him alone.
Authorities eventually entered the home and escorted the rapper out without reported injuries. In footage from the livestream, iHeartMemphis was seen standing with his hands raised, saying, “Don’t kill me, my hand’s up,” as officers moved in. Police later confirmed he told them he was unarmed.
According to law enforcement, iHeartMemphis was charged with allegedly making written or electronic threats and resisting arrest without violence. A dog inside the home was safely removed and released to a family member.
At this time, it remained unclear what led to the incident or whether the rapper had a known history of mental health struggles.
