Harvey Weinstein’s UK Indecent Assault Charges Dropped

Lyndon Abioye |

Harvey Weinstein’s indecent assault charges filed against him in the UK have been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

In June 2022, a woman claimed the disgraced movie mogul of assaulting her back in 1996. The Metropolitan Police charged him with two counts of indecent assault against the unidentified woman.

“Following a review of the evidence in this case, the CPS has decided to discontinue criminal proceedings against Harvey Weinstein,” Frank Ferguson, Head of the CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, said in a statement.

“The CPS has a duty to keep all cases under continuous review and we have decided that there is no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. We have explained our decision to all parties,” he added.

Weinstein was ordered to serve a 23-year prison sentence due to his 2020 rape conviction in New York, but the conviction was overturned earlier this year, and Weinstein is awaiting a retrial.

Weinstein was also convicted in Los Angeles in 2022 on three charges of sexual assault against former model Evgeniya Chernyshova. He was sentenced to 16 years behind bars and is appealing the sentence.
