Harvey Weinstein is to face charges of indecent assault after being accused by a woman in London.
The incident allegedly took place in 1996. The woman is now in her 50s but her name has not been published online.
“The CPS has authorized the Metropolitan Police to charge Harvey Weinstein with two counts of indecent assault against a woman in August 1996,” Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, said in a statement. “Charges have been authorized against Harvey Weinstein, 70, following a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation.”
Weinstein is currently serving out his 23-year prison sentence after being convicted of third-degree rape against Jessica Mann. He was also convicted of one count of a criminal sexual act in the first degree against Mimi Haley. He has been extradited to California for another sexual assault charge. He denies the allegations against him.
