Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 16 years for charges of rape and sexual assault in Los Angeles.

Weinstein is already serving a 23-year sentence in New York, after being convicted of rape and sexual assault in his 2020 criminal trial. Weinstein will serve his LA sentence consecutively after New York.

The sentence ensures the disgraced Hollywood producer will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Weinstein claimed he is innocent before the sentencing.

“I maintain that I’m innocent. I never raped or sexually assaulted Jane Doe 1. I never knew this woman, and the fact is she doesn’t know me. This is about money,” he said via CNN. “Please don’t sentence me to life in prison,” he added. “I don’t deserve it.”

In her statement in court, Jane Doe #1 thanked the jury for their verdict.
“Ten years later, the effects of this rape are still raw and difficult to discuss,” she said. “Your honor I hope you can understand my suffering. There is no prison sentence long enough to undo the damage. I hope that you give him the maximum sentence allowable.”
